The Alchemist (1988) by Paulo Coelho

Thinly-plotted, characterless, eye-rolling fare. Overly preachy at its best, nonsensical drivel at its worst. A bad self-help book masquerading as a high-minded literary classic full to the brim of weak fables to be spoonfed to guileless idiots. 

I can't say enough negative about The Alchemist. I hated every moment of it and I'll never understand why folks love it so much. To each his own, I suppose.
